Hello from the Hill everyone!!! It has been a while since I have been on here, during the fall and winter things have been busy here at Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast. As more people learn about us, our guest clientele is expanding. We have had extended stay visits with military personnel here on training at Roscrans field, nurses who work for Heartland, and many other business clientele. Check out Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast's corporate web page and give us a call. We have several options available for corporate, health care, and military clientele that are here on business, temporary work, contracts, school. I have since been expanding our presence in the Northwest Missouri Region and have websites directed towards those areas. More posts in the future will focus on those sites and the areas surrounding them. Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast is in a centralized location in St Jo Mo and a perfect place to stay while touring the entire Northwest Missouri Region from Kansas City to Weston, even across the bridge into Atchison. Hello from the #1 St. Joseph Missouri Bed and Breakfast!!!!! Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast was just nominated the top bed and breakfast in St. Joseph and the Pony Express Region area by the St Joseph News Press 2008 Reader's Choice Awards. We greatly thank all readers in St. Joseph and in Buchanan County.

Alot has been going on the past month. August just finished up with the Trails West event. It proved to be one of the most attended event to date. Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast (click this link for online booking) was a great place to watch the concerts. Also in an excellent location as the event is held at the Civic Center Park right in front the Bed and Breakfast down the hill. Next year's event is going to be just as huge, so if you are looking for plans to getaway next year, contact us for information and reservations. Even if you just need to escape and not have to go very far, this St. Joseph, MO bed and breakfast is truly "a destination all its own."

History on the Missouri River

Hello from the heart of the true Wild West, St. Joseph MO!! Back in the day, the Missouri River was used as a main route for movement of people and supplies. St. Joseph was the major stopping point along the route and the last place settlers could gather supplies before heading out into the open frontier. The Steamboat Arabia Museum really captures the essence of what life was like during the 19th century. Imagine being dependent on the reliability of steamboats to bring your supplies before a heavy winter sets in and if the boat does not make it, what do you do? The Museum is about the Steamboat Arabia disaster and showcases an entire steamboat inventory that went down in the river. Missouri Civil War Heritage Foundation Sponsor

Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast is a proud business partner of the Missouri Civil War Heritage Foundation. Missouri's past during the Civil War was very divided and the state was 3rd in having the most battles during the war. The Missouri Civil War Heritage Foundation's website http://www.mocivilwar.org/ is a vast library of information and Civil War sites to visit while traveling through Missouri. I have created an awesome website dedicated to the history of the Civil War in the Pony Express Region of the state: Northwest Missouri Civil War Excursions. The site also has plenty of places to visit. Use this site as a self guided Civil War Itinerary while lodging at Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast in St Joseph Missouri. While sitting on the porch of this property enjoying a glass of wine or a shot of good brandy, you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking view Civil War Union soldiers used for lookouts to watch for gunboats along the Missouri River during the War. The hill and property line Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast is on was at one time a strategic vantage point for observation of the river and the entire central part of the city of St Joseph. Attached is a drawing from 1861 before the war began of the vantage point area. The drawing was drawn from a corner one block behind Museum Hill Bed and Breakfast's property line. The position is angled down, putting the actual property line to the upper right hand corner of the drawing. Also attached is a picture of a genuine Civil War cannon in Patee House Museum. The Patee House was headquarters in St Joseph to Union soldiers during the Civil War. While there were no Civil War battles fought in St Joseph, the city was heavily divided and many "skirmishes" developed including the famous "flag incident" involving the St Joseph postmaster during that time. The Northwest Missouri Experience

Hello from the Hill!!!
As spring approaches, the hill is looking mighty beautiful. For the Midwest, we have a wonderful Missouri Bed and Breakfast that is in such a beautiful location, overlooking historic St. Joseph MO. We like to call it the "Million Dollar View of St Joseph" and as the grass turns green, flowers bloom, and trees gain their leaves, our guests enjoy relaxing days and evenings on our porch with our complimentary wine from the guest kitchen that is included with your stay. The picture is the front view from our porch, it is of City Hall and Civic Center Park. City Hall is an architectural gem in itself. Built in 1929, it signifies the grandeur of the passion and care of the people who constructed it. During the weekdays, the public is welcome to take a visit inside and marvel at the marble floors, concrete columns, and gorgeous staircase.
Speaking of wine, there are 2 very wonderful wineries on a scenic tour to Weston from our inn. A good one day itinerary suggestion is taking a road trip along the scenic route 59 after a good night's sleep and gourmet breakfast at the Inn, and stopping at The Riverwood Winery for a unique wine experience all its own. This winery is located in a old schoolhouse right off route 59 and the specialty wines are fabulous with the different meads and fruit flavors. One of my favorites is the apple wine, it is perfect with any pork dish. Now with the summer setting in, roast pork on the BBQ with fresh corn on the cob, a hearty green salad, and wild rice sure sets the tone with this wine.
After the Riverwood, continue to cruise on into Weston along the 59 to The Pirtle Winery for more wine tasting. Enjoy your roadtrip along the 59, it is a scenic route all its own. The road is excellent for a classic car cruise, riding in a convertible, or a ride with a Harley. The winery is located in an old church and it has a wonderful patio area to enjoy with one of their excellent red wines and their cheese basket with fresh bread.
As Summer approaches, it is time to get out and enjoy what we have out there in Northwest Missouri and this is just one of many things to do around the Kansas City area. We encourage comments on our blog of activities and attractions in Northwest Missouri, also known as the Pony Express Region.
